I talked to people about race insurance for stage rally before and its very expensive with a huge deductible, I think it was something like $2000 per event with a $10,000 deductible for AWD open class car, so not worth it

More precisely, the insurance would cover anything AFTER your primary health insurance has been exhausted up to the limits of the SCCA policy. I suppose if you have no health insurance, then the SCCA policy would kick in immediately.
