Spec Miata Rentals in NER?

Hi, I am also looking at Spec Miata as a way to get into racing relatively cheaply. I fully understand the notion of relative. With that being said I have a couple of questions about the classes (SM and SSM) as well as a question about renting a car first to make sure I like it.

So first I have to ask what the difference is between SM and SSM? I am sure I could plow through the rule book, but I am also sure someone can distill it down to a couple of sentences. That would be helpful to me and other newbies looking to get into racing.

Secondly, I am considering renting a car (cars actually, my wife isn't a watch the spouse race type) rather than buying to make sure I am really into this before I drop a lot of cash on cars, trailer, spares etc. Is there anyone renting out Spec Miata's for the NER events at Loudon and/or events at Lime Rock? I do know the season is over now except for the last race at Lime Rock. I am looking to nail things down for next year in preparation for the April Drivers School and the rest of the events for 2009. I have to admit, I'd be willing to look at almost any class for a rental. ITA or ITB or Touring would be fine too.

Spec Racers are fun as well, and very easy to rent through a CSR.  If interested in learning more about the SRFs let me know as I live in N Attleboro and have one.
