Hi,

The Solo board talked briefly about the DoubleX event for the 2009 RAL.

We'd like to do it again, but maybe try something to "even out" the field.

What we'd like to propose is some sort of situation where an autocrosser pairs with a person that normally drives in rallyx and the scores would be the combo of both drivers. The twist would be that each driver would drive their runs in BOTH cars on both courses. Else the team would drive the "autox" car on the autox course and the team would then switch to the rallyx car for the rallyx portion. But the scores would combine the two drivers.

The general idea would be to promote comraderie (sp?) between autox and rallyx as well as (possibly) providing a mechanism to level the field. The "teams" could either be by cparticipant choice (make your own team) or the event "staff" could create the teams.

At any rate, let us know what you think.

Well I guess that would work for me and my co-driver, Since my Co-Drive is not a regular auto-xer. but would it be fair for me to Auto-x the EVO and then Rally-x the Mirage. I say the Mirage would have to be bumped to SA for the gravel. That way your comparing my tarmac times to SA and that way our combined score isn't way too fast for SF in the gravel. I would have no problem with that. This is just suppose to be fun event anyway.

The primary concern with the Solo crowd is PAX, right? Does this address those concerns?
Are you suggesting to run PAX on the AX times in AX cars? And then straight times in the RX with RX cars?

option A -

"an autocrosser pairs with a person that normally drives in rallyx and the scores would be the combo of both drivers. The twist would be that each driver would drive their runs in BOTH cars on both courses."

hmmmm - I am not sure anyone would let me rally their autocross car.
I sure wouldn't let the breakers, i mean the Bakers drive my solo car at autocross...

so option B

Else the team would drive the "autox" car on the autox course and the team would then switch to the rallyx car for the rallyx portion. But the scores would combine the two drivers.

not sure how this levels the playing field you can cherry pick the best of both worlds.
we can run my SC miata for the auto-x and then switch to the Audi for the rally-x lol.....

I think the point of this is that you can use 1 car for both, not use the best car for each.

option B - With random seeding could work out, but may not get too many people signing up not knowing what they could be driving or who could be driving their car.

I think we should run it the same as last year (same car for both) however to make people happy we can have a couple of allowances that were major talking points last year.

1. NO R-COMPS (140 treadwear or higher)- for everyone anyone - ( safety for the softer rally cars)
2. Suspension raising and lowering is OK
3. We can have 2 classes - 4wheel drive and 2 wheel drive

I think these items with bring in some people who were turned off by the classing, the ride height issue.
And some of the NER board members/solo board members had a real concern with rally-x cars running sticky rubber. We may need to allow "for rally use only" rally tires as I am not sure they even have a treadwear.

Thoughts??

20 entries/drivers - 10 AutoX cars/drivers & 10 RallyX cars/drivers (or more)

Pull names out of a hat so you have one AutoX & one RallyX car on a "team"
The AutoX car runs the tarmac portition and the RallyX car runs in the dirt with each team member getting one or two runs in each - add them up the team with lowest time wins (with PAX for AutoX and 2wheel & 4 wheel classes for RallyX ??).

I like the idea, but i dont know how i like the idea of random strangers driving my vehicles... And i would feel REALLY bad if i break somebody else's car..

And if you get to pick your own team, then Justin & Warren win... Because the roach on dirt + the GTi on tarmac = big win for zeee germans...

Maybe i should accidentally tape a box of nails to my rear control arms...

Oh wait.. that would require warren NOT being first in line... Not gonna happen...

So I can bring the Audi to drive in the dirt or the pavement. Wait I could bring the Evo to drive on the pavement or the dirt. So many choices. How about I drive the M5 and see who can leave the longest burnout. It all sounds good, let me know what to bring. Lord of the Rings
