My friend Seth Strait is trying to make room for all his toys.  He has a '78 SAAB 99 EMS rally car that he hasn't run in a few years and is looking to give it away.  The car was originally run in SCCA Pro Rally by Jerry Sweet.  Jerry's engine and gearbox didn't come with the car.  The engine and transmission that Seth has for it are out of the car and it needs some other work including wiring.  It has a cage built by Union 7 in PA.  Its a 1.5" weld in cage in need of some updates if you were to run it in stage rallies, but the logbook is missing.  The cage extends up to the front suspension to really stiffen up the car and make it durable.  It would be a real good start for a rallycross or hillclimb car.  We had it running a few years ago and did a few rallycrosses with it but DNFed one because someone forgot to put the transmission input shaft bearing into the flywheel...

I'm tempted myself but I have too many toys as well.

I've got a friend who has space and needs a rally car that I can play with.  Er, I mean, WE can play with.  And I've got access to a trailer.  I just need to convince him....

Not that anyone cares, but the 99 made the trip from VT to Ashby, MA yesterday.  The hardest part was getting it out of the borrowed box trailer and then up the 1/4 dirt driveway with a semi broken ball joint.  Now we just need to set up the work space and maybe sometime next year we'll get it out to an event....

The car is in Ashby, huh?  Thats some of my old stomping grounds.
I'll have to stop by sometime on my way to my parent's house and see how things are going, give you a hand, laugh and point, etc.

Yeah, my buddy who has the space lives in Ashby which isn't so convenient for me working on it being an hour or so away.  But he's as clueless as I am when it comes to Saabs, so it should work out just fine.  And we've already had plenty of pointing and laughing from each other, an understanding wife (his, who was rewarded with her tolerance by a new tractor) and several random passers-by.  But more "encouragement" is always welcome.

Thanks for making the original post.  We are looking forward to playing with it and just maybe one day actually running it.....

new tractor!   As we used to say in high school, "Those Ashby farm-kids!"  Grin

I'll have to let you know when I'm passing through town, if you're around working on the car I'd love to stop by and lend a hand.  I know those cars all too well...
