If I haven't autocrossed in approximately a decade am I a novice again?

Also, what class would a 2001 Audi TT Quattro run in?

If you haven't modified the car at all, you are likely in D stock.

If you have experience, you probably should just run in open class. Let the folks that really are NooBs run against each other.

As stated, the class thing depends on the mods to the car.

[Mostly] I was joking about being considered a novice again.  My experience level with autocrossing is considerable (going back to 1978) with multiple class championships along the way.

The Audi is completely stock.  In fact, it's more stock than anything I ever raced in the Stock classes before.  It hasn't even got an aftermarket radio!

Yes, Paul is correct........but that was over 20 years ago!

I really am hoping to make it out to an autocross this season.  Perhaps I ought to take a closer look at the schedule and figure out where/when to make my "novice comeback."

hey -we'd love to see you come back!

I recall you making some real "hero runs" to get PAX or win your class. Didn't you used to run an Audi 4000 or Quattro?? I also recall that you ran a Scirocco in DSP (right?)

I have seat time in many, many VW/Audi products.  My last NER Championship was in an '81 Scirocco.  I autocrossed a 4KQ for awhile before dedicating it to hillclimb and rally duty.

I hadn't thought about autocrossing for many years, but I had a lot of those memories thrown up in my face recently.  The person that originally got me into autocrossing 30+ years ago, Davieson Annis, recently passed away.  Getting together with all his racing pals from the past rekindled my thoughts of competing.

Kathy, Kathy, Kathy..... you'll have my competitors questioning my legality before I even get to the event.  I can handle them questioning my morality, but not my legality.

Sooooooooo....... what is the fast car to have to D-Stock these days?

Last year we had some good battles between

Chang Ho Kim in an Integra Type R
Dave Gott in a 330i
Scott Thursby in a Mazdaspeed3

Chang is not running the ITR this year, but we have Todd Kean running an Audi TT who has been fast.  It is a fairly diverse class.  Also , the R32 from VW can apparently run 285 tires and took the DC Pro this past weekend.

Looks like the first weekend I have free to join the fun is August 30th for the Racing Against Leukemia event.  I'll plan for that event unless I can juggle a few other things to make an earlier one.

Thanks to everyone that contributed to this thread.  It's been a LOOOONG time, but I'm looking forward to autocrossing again.

And please don't ask me if you can 'gently' drive a 4wd pickup on course.   Smiley

Gosh, that was a fun little beast.  Last I knew it had the roof cut off and a cage installed.  Then they put a 2.0l 16V engine in it.....and that was just for use commuting around the Amhearst, MA area.

And please don't ask me if you can 'gently' drive a 4wd pickup on course.   Smiley

Rest assured that whatever I drive will not be done so gently.
