For those who don't remember or weren't here last year, the RAL DoubleCross is new event (started last year) happening on RAL weekend.  It's comprised of both a Solo and RallyX component and will take part during the Saturday Solo and Sunday RallyX events.  Drivers competing in the DoubleCross will also be able to compete in the full Solo and RallyCross events each day.  This year, we've got a new class to compete in too, so keep reading for details!  Get started forming teams for the "Indexed" class!

Event Details:
1. 20-driver entry limit.  This may increase.
2. Cost: $40, donated straight to the RAL charity proceeds.
3.  There will be 2 Solo runs on Saturday after the Challenge event, and two runs Sunday morning prior to the RallyX event.
4.  There may be trophies, it may be just for bragging rights

The DoubleCross 1.0 "Open" class will be run just like it was last year.  Here are the rules:
1.  All cars to be tech'd by solo tech on Saturday and again on Sunday by the rally tech.
2.  All runs count for a 4 run cumulative time.
3.  Tires may be changed.
4.  Suspension adjustments are permitted.

The DoubleCross 2.0 "Indexed" class will be new.
1. 2 drivers will team up with each other so that each driver makes the Solo runs in a Solo car and the RallyX runs in a RallyX car.
2. Solo runs will be indexed using the PAX index.
3. RallyX runs will be indexed according to tire selection.  Rally and snow tires will not be indexed. All-season and summer tires will be indexed at 0.95.
4. Total score will be the sum of all 4 indexed times.

great idea with the tire pax for RX.  I assume the 20 driver limit is in total, and not per class?

I'll be signing up for the indexed class Smiley

what person with a solo car is gonna let us rallycross fools use their cars? Shocked

Will a prep'd rally car be permitted to run on the solo course?

Warren and I discussed limiting the number of entrants and decided in the spirit of the event to NOT limit entrants. Remember that all the $$$ goes to charity. We're not even budgeting a trophy or any operations costs.

Truthfully, I think you'd be surprised. I'll say "just ask".

YES, with the provision that it passes solo tech.

regarding the indexed class, we have discussed that the pairing will be done by a random draw. The idea here was to try to "level" the field by throwing in an element of chance.

feedback on the pairing is requested.

Random-draw pairing is not currently in the plans.  That was an idea proposed to level the playing field if it was all teams.  Because we're still allowing single-car competitors in the Open class, and the Indexex class competitors will be indexed, there's no need for random drawings anymore.

The unlimited entry may be an issue on the RX end of this for two reasons.  First, the RX runs will take place before the actual RX event.  A large number of entries could severely effect the starting time of the real RX event and possibly decrease the number of runs in the RX event.  To that end, I feel there needs to be a registration cut-off a couple of days before the event.  In doing so, the Sunday time schedule can be adjusted accordingly based on the number of Double-X entries so the impact on the RX event is as minimal as possible.  Secondly, course degradation is always an issue at the Dog Pound.  At 20 entries X 2 runs, that's nearly a full run of abuse on the course already.  If we get 40 entries......ouch.

I like the indexed class. My only concern, I run a AWD auto-x and a FWD Rally-x car, will there be an index for drive train on pavement? If not, whatever I don't really care, Just putting it out there that I plan on driving my EVO for the Tarmac and the Mirage on the dirt.

The solo runs will be indexed with PAX.

My apologies for asking a 'stupid' question as I would assume the answer is yes, but I feel the need to get the real answer.

For the RAL weekend event, will there be Solo runs on both Saturday and Sunday?

Also, can someone come and run in the Solo runs only? or will you be required to team up and have someone run in the RallyX?

Again, sorry for the questions, Im still figured out how the whole system works.

Heh few questions:

Do I have to be an SCCA member for this? and do I have to register for the autox to run this?  (I was planning on running the rallyx anyways)

There are no stupid questions...

Solo will be running on SAT and SUN. SAT is the Jeff Gordon Challenge, you sign up like a normal event ($35/$50) we do pledge runs ($10 each) 'till about one PM and then we switch to a normal three run thing. The top  8 or so are in a runoff (single elimination) in open and  the top 4 novices do the same thing. Open winner gets the Jeff Gordon Trophy, the novice winner gets a separate trophy. SUN is a normal points event with the usual entry fees.

You can run either solo or rallyx and in certain cases you may run both. You can run "both" if you enter the rallyx and you can run both SUN events at the event chair's disgression. Hint: bring in $1k of pledges and you can do _almost_ whatever you want.

You can do solo runs only, if that's what you want to do.

Don't be concerned about the confusion. We'll try to help.

There's lots of RAL information on the site already: http://www.ner.org/region/racing-against-leukemia
RAL weekend is lots of events.  There's a Road Rally on Friday night, Club Racing on both Saturday and Sunday, Solo's got the Jeff Gordon Challenge and the Bill Goodale Novice Challenge on Saturday and a points event on Sunday, RallyX has got a Sunday Rallycross.  The DoubleCross is just another event, that is put on by both the Solo and RallyX folks.

Anyway, there's a lot going on.  Check out the Solo specific parts of RAL too: http://www.ner.org/solo/ral-from-a-solo-perspective
The info is still specific to last year, but it'll get updated soon.
