hey guys just looking for some pointers on getting involved with local rallycross and road rallys.
i drive a 93 probe gt with some nice new suspension parts and basically the whole car has been restored.
new paint, new motor and trans, axles, etc. also a full suspension including Ksport full coilovers, new control arms and ball joints, adjustable sway bar end links, 22mm rear sway bar, new trailing arms, all with poly bushings. the suspension is also complimented by a b pillar bar and both front and rear strut tower bars. i am running a stock braking system with 17x8.5 wheels with a 245/40/17 series kumho ecsta ast tire. i also have a set of racing seats, harness bar, and 4 point harnessess.

i am ready to begin testing my new suspension so to speak haha.
let me know what you think, or if you have any pointers or info on getting involved regarding class/events. i am in Boston, Ma.

thanks in advance guys!

Hi and Welcome Mike!

I am a newbie also! I bought a grassroots motorsports mag that featured rallycross four or five years ago... It was something i really wanted to do but didn't have the money to do it. This past year i bought a SVT focus and it brought all those old dreams back to the surface. Almost a year ago in February, I volunteered to work at the event. This past november was my first try at racing. It was AWESOMEGrin Here's a few tips ive already learned.

Try volunteering at an event before driving in one, its free and you could definitely find somebody to ride along with, they even have loaner helmets if you don't have a Snell 95.

If you want to restore your probe, esp. if you have new paint, I think you might find RallyX to be a little rough on the cars. I ultimately bought a different car to use in Rally cross, because i dont want to risk rocks coming up and scratching the paint, or risk it bottoming out.

These two problems; however, could be solved with a good set of mudflaps and a skidplate. There's guys and gals who race fairly new STI's too. One guy protects his paint with masking tape, he just coats the bottom half of the car with it.

If you have the money and the room, It might be a good idea to buy another probe and use that to RallyX. You wouldnt have to worry about the car getting dirty and the paint getting chipped, and you could use it as a parts car in your probe resto project. Also, if you ever decide to swap a KL-ZE in there you could swap your plates and use the rallyx car for transortation (not that I'd be recommending anything illegal Shocked Lips Sealed)!

This sport is fun and addicting. I guess the only good advice is that you should come to one of the events and work a corner. That way youll get an idea of what the cars go through and think about whether or not you'd get anxious putting your resto-project through it. At the corners you'll get a chance to ask questions and talk to RallyX guys in person. You also might get a ride with one of the drivers if you know who to ask! Working for a day was really informative for me, and I made a few racing contacts too.

With that being said next weekend December 4th is the RallyX at Wolf-Chase in VT. You should come! If you do bring incredibly warm clothes, gloves, and a knit hat. It gets pretty cold

I might be there if I can find a trailer between now and Friday! If you decide to go, look for an old school orange car! Thats me. Come introduce yourself!
