Since the rules between NER and DC region seem to be a little different I need some clarification before I strip out the car?

If I remove the interior of the car or any other mods but still run snow tires is my car legal for PF?

Do I move to M2 only when I start running rally tires?

In DC you could have your car stripped out with suspension mods and the whole 9 but if I were running snows then I are PF, and just want to make sure that's the same here

Thanks for you help

Modified class pertains to engine swaps and any interior parts being removed, or any weight removal. Regardless of tires, weight removal and any engine swap that isn't a factory-installed motor (Such as putting a 2.2 in a '95 or older Impreza with a manual transmission, because the 2.2 Impreza before '96 only came with the automatic) puts the car in Mod.
You can run gravel tires in Prepared and Modified.

Simple answer = weight reduction puts you in mod.

Thanks for the answer guys. Like I had noticed before there are quite a bit of differences between rally cross rules here and the DC region.

Decision now is whether to run Sf PF or M2 for these next 2 rally crosses?

For the most part, we follow the SCCA National RallyX Rules. We do have a few exceptions that are called out here: http://www.ner.org/sites/ner.org/files/NER_Supplemental_RallyCross_Regulations_2011.pdf
Stuff like studded tires, radiators and allowing RWD M2 cars to run in PR.

Per the Nat'l rules, stripping the interior will put you into Mod.
http://www.scca.com/documents/Rally%20Rules/2010_RallyCrossRulesFinalmod20100104.pdf

I guess the question is how much work do you want to put into it? Some good competition in all 3 of those classes.

What will you be running? And as Chris said, things have been competitive in all 3 of those classes this year. M2 is generally a bigger class, but you're not going to be by yourself in either of them.

Yeah, some idiot is spending a ridiculous amount of time and money in M2 to try and make a Civic go fast in M2, because the rules are pretty open there and creativity seems to be the limit.  So, if you also enjoy spending a ridiculous amount of tiime and money, come join us in M2.  Grin

PF has some reasonably sane people competing in it, good, consistent competition in that class.

Anyone want to buy a M2 Civic?   Cry

If the car is still stock, try giving SF a try! It's a small, but very tight class right now.

The car is still stock right now but I have parts in hand to change it to either class, and that's what the dilemma is right now

Well, there are two events left in the season, one in November and one in December. With the next one being two weeks from today, your best bet would be to try SF first, then if you want to try something different, switch to another! If you find you want to run each event next year to go for Championship points, you can decide what class you want to run starting in January!

alot depends on the car you have. If it's a luxury car with heated leather 300 lbs seats, 4 inches of plush padded carpeting, sunroof, 8 speaker stereo, CD changer, 4 airbags, power everything you may have to move to mod to allow removing just a few creature comforts.

if it's a flyweight econo car where stripping it net's you 100 lbs reduction it may be best to leave it stock, or run in prepared. Weigth reduction in a flyweight car can be a point of diminishing returns, or rather diminishing car in some cases.

Also consider if you will be driving it to the events. A 4 hr drive in a clapped out mod car with no interior may no sound so bad till you try it.
4 hr drive with all the creature comforts, a quiet exhaust and a stereo are the way to go. Best with a mod car on a trailer and a comfy tow rig.

This is one of the reasons I decided to move to Subaru and Stock AWD next year instead of moving the Sentra up to M2 - there is litereally nothing to the car so stripping the interior would make no difference - only way that base-model Sentra could be competitive in M2 would be with an SE-R swap. The rear seats make no real difference, it doesn't have anything from the interior that would make a difference by removing other than the passenger seat!

On another note, if someone is looking to get started in SF, my Sentra will be for sale after December's race for just $500!
