And about those super street tires...I guess I have been out for a while!! Back in my days...oh well! Smiley

The stock ones that came with the car are not that bad compare to those you are referring to! One thing that I just couldn't (or just didn't want to do) get around was that they had to be driven through the initial squeak since the peak of grip was not reached yet. With the Rs, once it starts to make sound you vent too far...

Or maybe, those tires are just not that good to start with! Smiley

That being said, the EVO-X is going to have serious problems against the Racecar-CR in any Solo 2 environment short of a ProSolo.
This is why I am trying to see what the car can do! Nobody brought one and pushed it the way to see where it is going to buckle! So, it is not right in my book to say that car cannot do it just from the numbers on the paper! The same thing was said to me all and over again when I started with my 2G DSM and it came pretty close to get a jacket!

Also, as you said, there are several pretty fast drivers in that class with several different cars, which makes it even more interesting. Basically, if I could ran with stock car and used race tires around 2 to 3 seconds of the top BS cars, it might be worth getting $6k worth of shocks and struts, along with the stiffer front bar and then see how much time that could give back in order to close the gap! But, if I don't see it there with basic setup, then money will go elsewhere!

Mr Booooooost, this has been an entertaining thread.  Sorry I didnt see it earlier to help curb the extent of it.  Hope you come to more events and isnt your little one old enough to run in FJ?  If anything, you need to come back to win the Moss and get the National Jacket.

Before this goes too far...

Fedja neglected to mention that, while it's been a few years since we've seen him - he's a Pro type driver that could easily challenge for top Pax once the rust is off.

Aww, PZ, this was just getting funny and you had to go and clear things up!

Well then I hope you decide to give it a go!

Much love for the DSM's by the way.  I built a high 11 sec All-season tire, 93 Octane 180,000 mile street 1g Talon AWD back in the early 2000's.

Fredja

Sorry about the rant on being a new driver, thats why I asked about your experience in my first post. Sounded like you had only been to one event!

Rock some 285 Hoosiers and enjoy. The Evo is silly fast, but those CR's are insane. Wait until you see Nick in his, I'm excited. Maybe you can spice up BS a bit.

You might take a look on the RX8club or some of the Bimmer forums. 285/18 is a pretty big tire and there may be some folks selling "slightly" worn Hoosiers. I bet at that size its likely to be Hoosier.

If you have been out of the sport for awhile, you should read about some of the Super street tires. I'm switching from an R-Comp class to ST just to enjoy more runs, less money but still insane grip. Caviat - Not sure I am saving money. 18's are way more expensive than 15's!

Looking forward to meeting you

Had me hoodwinked there too. I came to the same conclusion... you did start by saying you "went to one event"   Undecided

Hey Fedja! Did you check sccaforums yet? I think I saw some 285's posted up there the other day. PJ might have some too, or Bud Collins. I think the Kozlaks sold their 295's already unfortunately.

Fedja, if you're talking about the BMW school you helped instruct at that wouldn't be a good show for the car as the mini course I set up was a little tight in spots and we were forced to go over the painted spot as well.

No, no!! I really had a real event besides the BMW school!! Really!! Smiley

It really comes down to the drivetrain specifics that this EVO has. It is unlike any other car I have even driven. The only comparison would be GTR or some fancy Porsche models, but they are slightly outside of my price reach! Even with both kidneys included!!

There is so much going under the car that computer is doing for you and when using street tires (at least those that I have tried so far) it is so easy to get them to squeak! I am still unsure whether all that tech stuff is helping me to drive the car faster, so more grip on familiar tires would help me to figure out what is going on there! Right now, without any nannies turned on, even in the Gravel mode car is extremely difficult to drive fast through the slalom. As soon as you go a tiny bit more with the steering angle rear end starts to slide wide and I was unable to get it under control. What I mean here is to make it just to turn without sliding. The car still goes where steering wheel is pointing it to go, but with rear end hanging a bit more then is needed for the fastest way through there! I know I am spitting hairs here, but this has to be cured and I am hoping that higher grip levels of the R tires would be stabilizing factor which will keep rear end from doing its thing. I might be getting old for this game, so I am willing to look elsewhere for the cure before I resign with the car!! Smiley

So, I am hoping for a small improvement with R tires on this, so it would allow me to lean on all that technology and still get results that are expected and repeatable. If I can get a trust I need from the cars drivetrain then we can be in business. Then, I could justify getting better shocks to help this even more!
