I've run into this problem of transporting my race tires.

  • I can't stick em in my car... (I've got a whole 4cu ft of trunk space!)
  • I could just drive em to the event, but since it's a 30 min drive that gets quite hazardous in rain, and wastes a lot of tire.
  • I could rent storage near ayer and drive a short distance on the race tires, but then I'm restricted to events at ayer, and there's no room in that plan for rain tires or such unless I leave the event and come back for each tire change
  • I could buy a trailer, and rent a vehicle to tow it, but if I go to 10--12 events that's going to be almost $1000 in rentals, and I'm not sure if the landlord will be cool with me having a trailer (space issues).
  • I do suspect that a POS truck (something in rustoleum blue perhaps) might last 2-3 years and be cheaper than the rentals, but then I have 3 vehicles and a trailer and even worse parking problems.
  • I could trade my mazda 3 for a truck and try to talk the landlord into allowing the trailer, but then I have to drive a truck whenever I don't drive the lotus... Sad trucks are big, inefficient, tippy, and not much fun Sad This option is un-fun and still costs me the price of a trailer.

So I can't think of a good solution.... except...

If someone would be willing to provide transport for my race tires (4) I'd be happy to pay them $50 a race for their trouble. Picking them up morning of and driving up/back together would be fine, or if you have space, storing them for some time before/after or between races would be fine too, with the obvious caveat that it has to be possible to coordinate to pick them up and get new tires put on the rims when necessary.

The obvious possible flaw (especially if you store the tires) is when you can't go to the race and I want to, so even though I'm new, and might miss a race or two if I have to travel for work or something I probably need you to be a reliable regular, or give me at least 2 weeks notice if you aren't going to make it.

Any takers?

Hmm hadn't found that one. I found a bunch of other lotus hitch stuff that was mostly hoaxes when I searched for it a few months ago. That looks more real, I'll check into it...

Thanks.

That was just put up yesterday... so like... any day now! Or, just PM him/email him saying you saw them and would like to put on the list as one of the 1st orders.

Yesterdays post....

FINALLY

Alright, these things are finally done and man do they look good

Shipping really adds to the cost of these dudes, but I think anyone that is wanting to trailer tires and/or tent, chairs, etc to the track or AX will be more than happy with these tow bars. So with that, $350 shipped will get this done... You can buy the trailer from Harbor Freight for about 150 bucks and it's basically ready for tires as it comes.

I'll start a thread with a more formal offering, but these pics will give you the idea.

We have both black and a really sexy silver powder coat (looks like jet hot coating) to pick from... Only made a handful of these, so get'em while they're hot (I'll open the online store for orders when I put the thread up... can only sit for so long...

Let me know if you have any questions...

Best,

Phil

I hadn't noticed the date on the most recent posts looked at some dates in the first page you linked and they were julyish for a while so I stopped checking them.... thanks for pointing that out.

I pm'ed him and he shot back a reply that he had just put them up for saile. I ordered immediately Smiley. He apparently sold 5 in the first hour or two.... and he probably sold out in a day.

Nothing like a little luck Smiley

Thanks again for pasting that link... when/how do I get link enabled so that I don't have to mangle/chop links to the point of being nearly unusable? Obviously this sort of thing needs some control to avoid spammers, but it would be nice to know what gets me out of the "could be a spammer" category and into the allowed to wield hyper links category? (yes that's off topic Smiley and I'll start a new thread somewhere else if the answer/discussion is non-trivial)

Nevermind... I seem to have mysteriously gained the necessary karma to play with links... thanks to whomever did this Smiley, if it happened automagically upon my 10th post or something of the sort feel free to take credit anyway Smiley.

Gus, give me a call, I may be able to provide tire transport.  It's not like I'm not at every event.  Smiley
