Hi Everyone. I am new to NE SCCA and would like to get my Novice License. Can someone please direct me to the correct contact person. I have downloaded the pdf application but I have read it can be done through my local SCCA region?
Thanks,
Phil

Are you trying to get involved in Club Racing, Solo, or Rally? -N

I've moved your thread into the Club Racing forum then, for some more targetted advice for getting started. I suggest you also look around the Club Racing parts of this site ( http://www.ner.org/rr). The left navigation there has a lot of informative information for you, including contact information for the Club Racing Board ( http://www.ner.org/rr/club-racing-board), which includes a person to contact for new driver licensing. -N

Neil pointed you in the right direction above. Pat Travers is the contact for new driver licensing. I've included Pat's contact information below. 67 Mapleton St Cranston RI 02910 401.461.9219

Is this class room or on track instruction? Do I need a car ready by then?

I think there's some confusion here. The novice school mentioned is for club racing- you need to have a fully legal car with cage, etc. and you will need to have had a physical prior to the school.

Phil I don't know where you are located but if you are in the vicinity of New Hampshire Motor Speedway at Loudon NH on Sat 8/29 or Sunday 8/30 there will be a Regional race there that weekend. It might be more instructive if you could come on Saturday and see the various cars, classes, meet some of the drivers, workers, and the powers that be. Most anyone will be glad to discuss with you what the steps are that you will need to take and you will find a few of the rental outfits that can rent you a car for drivers schools etc. If you think you can make it send me a PM and I will put you on my crew list.

Thanks so much for the offer.. NH speedway is about 4 1//2 hours away from me.. Going to Lime Rock the next weekend for Historic festival.. so not sure yet..
I was under the impression that there was different classes of cars like ITE .. or showroom stock.. that would not require many mods for driver school?

May I recommend Dave Gran's guide to starting road racing, in case you have not heard of it - you can check out if it is helpful for you at his website www.goaheadtakethewheel.comI found it very useful, saved me a lot of beginner errors and certainly a huge amount of $$$ that I would have spent on all the wrong items - alone from that point of view, that book is worth its price at least a hundred times. I am doing autocross and just got into HPDEs, hoping to start wheel to wheel racing / novice license next year. Same dilemma as you - buy a used race car, rent, or slap all the necessary security upgrades into my own one to complete the drivers schools? I am leaning to the first option, but have not fully decided yet. Hope to learn a bit more along the way to make a good decision. See you at some track, hopefully! K.
