The Lodge at Belmont The good, the event happened. The bad, mother nature made it difficult.
The morning found 65 cars running on a snow packed surface that had been nicely groomed by the local snowmobile club. Knowing the course would probably degragate quickly, we sent the FWD's out first, then the AWD's. The surface held up fairly well to 3 runs by 30 plus cars. The modified cars got their chance at the course for 4 runs before lunch catered by our site hosts, The Lodge at Belmont.
All the while, the weather was getting sunnier and warmer. Which would not bode well for the afternoon runs.
After a lunchtime course change, the first run group was sent onto a sloppy, slushy course. Constant changes needed to be made, as ponds kept popping up on course. Some large enough to swallow small cars. A mitsu mirage could have used a snorkle, as all the water caused a wet ignition issue, and the fascia on one subie bought the farm due to the same "puddle." The course issues caused the organizers to change the plan of having the run group try for 4 runs and the runs were called at 3, all being run on different courses due to the course getting softer and slushier. After a good deal of time driving around the site and finding half of the area unusable due to either foot deep puddles or foot deep slush, the organizers set a smaller afternoon course for the final 2 runs by the second run group. After a demostration by Tyler Semple of how the new course should be run, the remaining cars made their afternoon runs on a shorter water course!
Runs were wrapped up by 5ish and those that stayed for the awards enjoyed another feed put on by The Lodge. Thanks to everyone that helped with course set up and tear down and quick worker changes.
